short bio
Elliott Maya (they/them) was born in Wildomar in 1995 and was itinerantly raised amid Southern California’s orange groves and grape vineyards, and the red clay, bleached-bone sci-fi sand dunes of the Arizona desert. Growing up against these two distinct backdrops ensured Elliott’s early fascinations with creepy critters, sci-fi, and fantastical adventures were only a matter of time.
In 2014, Elliott was awarded a Questbridge Full-Tuition Scholarship to Grinnell College, where they channelled their fascination for the far-flung and the fringe into studying cross-media explorations of alternative worlds and futures, the Alien/Other/Africanist presence in literature and media, Blackness and Brownness, affect theory, auto-theory, the supernatural, and the damned.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies, Elliott turned down a full-ride scholarship to a top-tier PhD program and returned to California to go to clown school, but when they realized they weren't terribly great with unicycles, they shifted gears and decided to pursue a new dream: captivating audiences of all ages with tales of the strange, the silly, and the sublime.
